The Town of Verona is Oneida County's largest town geographically. Verona is continuously growing, due to urbanization and growing tourism, along with many new businesses, and geographical advantages. The Verona Fire Department is located between the cities of Syracuse and Utica, located just north of the New York State Thruway exit 33. The village is three miles north of Oneida and five miles south of Rome. The Verona Fire Dept. was founded in 1928. The Town of Verona is divided into 4 Fire Districts. The Verona Fire Department falls under the town of Verona Fire District #3.
The Verona Fire Department covers approximately 27 square miles and run on average between 400-500 calls a year. The Verona Fire Department protects approximately 7,000 residents. The Verona Fire Department operates out of two fire stations, which houses a total of eight pieces of apparatus. Station 1 is located on Volunteer Ave. and Station 2 is on Hill Rd. We currently have approximately 40 active firefighters. The Verona Fire Department covers three essential roadways (New York State Thruway, State Rt. 365 and Rt. 31) and ten miles of CSX Railroad. The Verona Fire Department is the first due fire department covering the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, however in the event of large scale incident an extensive mutual aid plan is in place. Through hard work, dedication to excellence, and teamwork of deceased, past, and present volunteers, the Verona Fire Department since has been proudly serving the residents of Verona.
